In Ottawa, Jean-Yves Duclos, the federal minister of health, provides an update on the COVID-19 pandemic and other public health concerns. He is joined by Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, the deputy chief public health officer. Minister Duclos announces the federal government will deduct over $82 million in health transfers to the provinces and territories over patient fees charged from 2020 to 2021 for medically necessary services that should have been provided at no cost. A new Canada Health Act interpretation letter will also be sent to the provinces.
