Description: The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health will host an all-day scientific workshop at the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, to address research needs on severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The workshop will feature international experts in the fields of coronavirus biology, vaccine development, antiviral drug development, laboratory diagnosis, SARS epidemiology, etiology and clinical management. The purpose of this meeting is to identify the scientific, technical and logistical challenges that must be addressed to develop vaccines, antiviral therapeutics and other interventions in response to SARS. The meeting is designed to promote scientific exchange of ideas and develop elements of a robust research response.
