When humans retreat, birds occupy. The COVID-19 lockdown decreased human activity in public space and opened up the room for birds. In California, more peacocks were seen roaming about on the street. On the other coast, in Boston, swans took over the Charles River Esplanade and started to raise their families there. This video series follows three swan families on the Boston Esplanade in 2021 and 2022; it documents their lives and deaths—which turned out so dramatically—that had captured the attention of numerous Boston residents and multiple major media outlets. As a documentary, the series also includes relevant episodes that are devoted to nature, science, and humanity, all presented in the picturesque setting of a major New England city.
Episodes are to be released monthly. Their tentative titles are:
1. A Special Tribute to Nora and James — Two Well-Lived First-Time Swan Parents
2. Where Did the Single-Father Swan Family Go in 2021? (1) From Baby Cygnets to Teenager Swans
3. Where Did the Single-Father Swan Family Go in 2021? (2) Experiencing the Real World
4. What Caused the Demise of the Swan Mother in 2021?
