For most of us social media started off as entertainment, right? Twitter was the place people went to share super random facts about their day along with both popular and unpopular opinions on a wide variety of subjects. In fact, twitter was thought of as the place people would share the truth with millions of strangers while Facebook was jokingly referred to as the place millions of people went to lie about what was going on in their lives to people they know. We think it’s safe to say this is primarily still true for both apps. However, what’s definitely changed is the amount of information we now access via these apps and more so the amount of weight, truth, and “expertise” we attribute not only to posts we scroll through, but also to the people/accounts/sources responsible for posting and or sharing the information.

It truly doesn’t matter what it is, the content on our timelines is as good as Gospel, for most, and what’s worse is that we no longer seek out additional information beyond what we saw in 15-60sec viral video clip or read in a tweet….and that’s a problem. What happened to “getting all the facts” before formulating an unwavering opinion? Better yet, what happened to “seeking a second opinion”? We do it when it comes to our physical health so why not seek a second opinion when it comes to posts that clearly have such a powerful effect on our emotional and mental health. Why are we so quick to BELIEVE or make judgement based off of what we know is only a piece of the bigger picture and when did we become so lazy??? We get in to this and more so get ready ‘cuz its time to MANTFUP!!!
