EFT Tapping for Stress Relief and Vocal Empowerment

These 7 steps of the Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT tapping draw on the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture, which teaches that the body's energy travels along specific pathways. I’ve been using this wonderful technique with myself for many years, and more currently with my clients with very good results. It’s like it rewires, or creates new neural pathways in the brain.

It's an easy-to-learn technique that involves “tapping” on the meridian points of the body while repeating statements that help us focus on an issue from which we're seeking relief.

Tapping the meridian points with affirmations can help remove stress, stuck energy, cravings and even just odd emotions you want to shake off.

Or in the case of work on the voice, helping you to identify and transmute any blocks to full self expression or release emotional constrictions in your body.

Negative self-talk can create well worn neural pathways that can become obsessive thought loops, which can release stress hormones that keep us in fight, flight or freeze mode. EFT Tapping can shift these negative thought patterns by tapping on specific meridian points on your body.

I take you through a tapping sequence that you can use to identify your self-defeating thoughts about your voice. This is a tool that you can use for any thought or feeling that you wish to move through and release.

It may be helpful to first write down those negative thoughts, and then do the sequence. You can do this as many times as you need.

The tapping sequence typically involves the following steps:
Identify the issue: Start by thinking about a specific problem or issue that is causing you stress or discomfort, such as anxiety, fear, pain, or a traumatic memory, like someone shaming you about your voice.
Rate the intensity: On a scale of 0 to 10, rate the intensity of your emotions or physical symptoms. This will give you a baseline to measure your progress as you go through the tapping sequence.

Set up phrase: Repeat a set-up phrase while tapping on the Karate Chop point on the side of your hand. The set-up phrase usually starts with "Even though I have this [issue], I deeply and completely accept myself."

Tap the points: Tap on each of the following points in order, using two or three taps on each point:

Top of the head
Beginning of the eyebrow
Side of the eye
Under the eye
Under the nose
Under the lip
Collarbone
Under the arm
Back to Karate chop point

Repeat the reminder phrase: As you tap on each point, repeat a reminder phrase that summarizes your issue, such as "this anxiety" or "this pain in my shoulder."
Re-rate the intensity: After you have completed the tapping sequence, rate the intensity of your issue again on a scale of 0 to 10.

Repeat the process: Repeat the tapping sequence until you notice a significant reduction in the intensity of your issue, usually to a level of 2 or below.
