In a worrisome trend, at a recent Toronto City Council, the push for less meat for the city's most vulnerable was on. The idea of "emission-friendly" food for the city's homeless, seniors and children in daycares was discussed. One councillor, Stephen Holyday (Etobicoke Centre) appeared - thankfully - to balk at the idea.
The outgoing Mayor of Toronto signed up for a world food pledge called Cool Food Pledge unbeknownst to the majority of people in Toronto in seniors homes, the homeless, and daycare staff and children. They may be consigned to much less meat as provided in city meal offerings, supposedly for the environment, as this plan progresses.
At the C40 world Mayors Summit on October 10th, 2019, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Mayor of Toronto signed the Good Food Cities Declaration, along with mayors from 14 cities across the world.
