How To Install a CEILING FAN - (From an Electrician)
There are so many different types of fans, but most of them are similar in some key ways. How you build them can be either from the ground up or the ceiling down. My method is to hang them and build them ceiling down.

Ceiling fans can be a huge pain to install, especially if you've never installed one before. After many years of putting many fans in, I've come to find a method that I like more than any of the others I've tried. Hopefully, some of this can help you too.
First off I recommend always opening the fan box for the new ceiling fan that you're going to install and just making sure all the pieces are there, and that the fan will actually work in the location you're going to put it. Many times, people will get 20 minutes into installing a new fan and realize something about it won't work, then they have to take it all down, get a new fan, and start the whole process all over again later with a different fan.
Another thing to make sure of while installing fans is that everything gets tightened all the way. Fans wobble if you don't get everything tight, and sometimes even when you do. Due to the rotational motion of a fan, any imbalance can amplify into a large wobble. Making sure that the bracket the fan is hanging from is solid - not loose, and that all screws you install are tight, will help ensure there's minimal, if any, wobble.
Last thing worth mentioning is the type of box used to suspend the fan from. Make sure any box you hang a fan from is rated for use with fans. This is in the National Electrical Code, but it's logical to think about from a safety standpoint too. If you install a cheap plastic box and try to hang a 40 lb rotating high-speed airplane propeller from it there's a likelihood the screws holding to the plastic box will strip out and the fan will fall out of the ceiling.
