Although recent tests dated this building in Dumfries, Prince William County, Virginia to 1787, and not 1760 as previously thought, it is still over 235 years old. That makes Williams Ordinary among the oldest buildings in the county. William McDaniels built it after his tavern burned down and leased the finished structure to Esme Smock. It had many names over the years, including Love’s Hotel, Old Love’s Tavern, Albert's Hotel, Brick Tavern, and the Stagecoach Inn. It sat conveniently on the old King's Highway, today U.S. Route 1. A former owner named Pete Costello claimed to share the building with a bevvy of ghosts. He described hearing commotion downstairs, despite being alone, and the sound of drums around midnight. Today, Williams Ordinary is home to the Prince William County Historic Preservation Foundation. #virginia #princewilliamcountyva #dumfriesva
