Busy Weekend And New HF Tools For The Off Grid Project

Saturday I did a lot of work but did not have my camera with me. Here is a recap of my weekend and the new Harbor Freight tools I picked up for The Off Grid Project.

The first half of the day was raining Saturday so I took a trip into Harbor Freight to get some tools to build my tiny home with.

I got a powered hand planer to clean up pallet wood for my kitchen cabinets. I plan to use wood pallets to make my cabinets and storage for my tiny house on wheels.

I also got a belt sander to smooth off the pallet wood fast and easy after it has been planed. The planer takes off the old surface wood and filth, leaving behind a beautiful aged wood look.

Nail holes add to the distressed and aged wood look which many people find so beautiful.

I also got a tiny circular saw that I will use to frame the cabinet doors with. I have some prints that I always wanted to frame as well.

The planer and sander both work on my tiny HF 800 watt generator. The tiny little table saw works on solar power using only 100 watts of power. This will save me money in the end because I will not need to use gas when making my cabinets and the frames for my prints.

In the afternoon I finally planted the herbs and shrubs that I brought back from Michigan a while back. I weeded an area in the garden to put in my potted herbs so they can grow better.

The shrubs went out into the meadow where my herb garden will be next year. They are border plants for the garden. I will have winding walkways hidden among herbs and shrubs with brick walk ways. This is a long term project that I will start next year.

Due to the constant rain I cannot work on the tiny house right now. It rains on and off all the time every day so I cant risk uncovering it. If water gets into the flooring then I will have a bathtub due to the sealed off aluminum flashing under the floor joists.

So I went out and cleaned out my solar powered workshop on wheels. It was a storage unit when I emptied my old camper to prepare the frame for a tiny house. The workshop just got stuff dumped into it in a hurry. I cleaned up the middle and sorted out my stuff. I also emptied a bunch of boxes which I tossed out to be disposed of later.

I will use some of the lumber I just got at the lumber yard cleanout to build a heavy duty work bench on each side of the workshop.

I fired up an old generator that was sitting in the workshop. I gave it a pull and the engine fired right up but it does not produce any power.

I also planted my blueberry shrub so it can set in its roots nicely for next year. It will grow into a huge shrub and produce lots of fruit next year.

I have been eating my garden harvest for dinner each night now. I am eating tomatoes, peas, beans, cucumbers, radishes and squash for now. As well as the broccoli and lettuce which both bolted on me.
