Wet Rainy Day Deer Hunting At The Off Grid Homestead

Sorry not much of a video today. It is wet and raining all day and I am deer hunting. Part of becoming self sufficient is to provide your own food. This also includes food preservation. So I am determined to get a deer and preserve it using the old Indian methods.

I was out hunting early in the morning before sunrise and it was very cold and wet. It was raining the whole time with no break. Hunting in the rain has its pros and cons. The rain covers your scent so the deer cannot locate you as easily. It also covers up any noise you make. But it covers up the sounds of the deer moving through the woods as well so it is harder to hear them coming. On the other hand, the deer are often more confident because the leaves are not crunching under their feet as much.

The biggest problem is that I did not wear noisy rain gear so I got soaked through. I considered this to be a good thing though because the humidity in my tiny house is very low and my wet clothes would add badly needed moisture into the air.

I was right. My sopping wet clothes dried out in a few hours. In the afternoon I went back out into the rain to try again.

This was my day on this wet, rainy winter day at The Off Grid Project.
