Exploring The Shawangunk Mountain Range

I went out for a few hours on the weekend with friends from church to explore the local Shawangunk Mountains. We visited Lake Minnewaska and the Peterskill Falls nearby.

The weather started out a bit cloudy but then turned out partly sunny. The views were quite amazing as we walked around the lake. Pieces of the mountain have literally fallen into the lake through the centuries and you can walk out onto some of them. It is both beautiful and scary when you stand on the fallen rocks.

There are pitfalls, crevices and sheer cliffs that make this a climber's mecca.

The view from the top of the mountain near the lake edge is breath taking.

We walked around the lake. The path follows the cliff tops on one side and then goes down to the lake shore near the other side.

After walking around the crystal clear lake we then went to Peterskill Falls. This is where I did an earlier video when the water was not flowing as well. It is even more spectacular during the rainy season.

We were able to cool our feet off in the stream below the falls. Well, freeze them off is more like it. Somehow the water is ice cold and your toes go numb within seconds in the icy water.

It was a peaceful day with amazing scenery.

I cant believe that I live in an area filled with such beauty. You would think that New York is all cities and traffic.
