How I Put The Baby Chicks To Bed Every Night

Every night at the off grid homestead I have to put the Silkie chicks to bed by hand. Silkies do not seem to be the most intelligent of chickens to begin with but the babies are very slow to learn how to get into bed and night.

If I do not put them up into the chicken tractor for bed at night they will huddle in a bunch on the ground and chirp pitifully.

I have to first let them out of the pen by opening up the main door. I entice them out by letting them eat the fresh grass.

Once they are all out of the chicken tractor I can gather them up one or two at a time and toss them upstairs into the house.

This has become a daily routine. In the morning they all find their own way outside for breakfast though.
