Baby Chicks Outside & Something Disturbing At The Homestead

It was a warm and sunny day so I put the ducklings and chicks outside in the new homemade pallet wood chicken tractor. They are loving the fresh air and sun. On a bad note, something very disturbing has happened at the off grid homestead.

My free DIY pallet wood chicken coop is fully functional. I still have to put the wheels on it and move it over to its permanent location (after I figure out where that will be). But otherwise it works nicely.

I put the baby birds out each day to enjoy the fresh air and get used to nature. They love chasing bugs and eating grass and just laying in the sun.

It is also toughening them up a bit because there are occasional winds and clouds passing by which cause it to feel cooler sometimes. This is good to get the birds hardened to outdoor life.

My baby deer are back grazing in the meadow. The perimeter electric fence has been off for the winter due to low power at my homestead so the deer just come right in. I need to get the power back on for the fence and keep out the deer because the ticks are horrible already this year.

Something very disturbing has happened at the off grid homestead. Something has slipped into the chicken run and stolen about a dozen eggs one at a time. Whatever it was got past the electric fence which protects the chickens and through the chicken wire without leaving a trace of its passing.

The only evidence left behind is a bunch of cracked open and empty egg shells laying on the ground outside the chicken coop.

Something took its sweet time and hauled out a bunch of eggs to eat them in peace outside the wire.

This is very upsetting. This is my food source. It also shows that my defenses have been breached and I have to find and fix the problem.
