Snake In The Chicken Coop Trying To Get Him Out

It was very warm out today reaching about 70 degrees and everything is out in force. Today I had my first snake of the season inside the chicken coop.

I had to get the snake out as much for its own safety as for my chickens. I do not fear for the larger chickens but rather the smaller ones and my eggs.

A snake like this can take a few eggs.

But I was worried that my chickens might harm the snake as well. These are harmless black snakes that eat rodents and insects. These are beneficial snakes and I hate to lose any.

So I got a small stick and tried to get the snake to leave by gently pushing it. But it wanted to stay in the chicken coop.

I had to put the camera down and get a larger stick to actually pick up the snake and get it moving alone.

Once it got going it was so fast that it was out in the woods before I could pick up my camera again.
