Collected 200 Gallons Of Rain Water & Car Running Well
It rained hard all day today. But the good thing is that I collected 200 gallons of rain water for my off grid tiny home. I also got my car fully fixed up. And I came home with a nice gas engine.
I got the car brake lines bled fully and now the brakes are better than ever. The brakes are actually stronger and firmer than they have been since the day I got the car. I think the parts were original on the car, except for the brake pads.
I took the car into Mavis Discount Tire for some new tires. The back ones were bald and looked like racing slicks. I did a lot of research ahead of time and chose the tires I wanted based on customer reviews and tire tread wear. I wanted a good quality tire that would wear longer.
The cheap Japanese tires I bought last time wore out in a year.
The tires at Mavis have a number rating system and I was looking at Firestone tires. I want quality this time. But I was referred to another brand which has a longer tread life for a bit less money.
I got the new tires on the front of the car and put the other two on the back.
The tires have a 50,000 mile tread guaranty and I also got the road hazard guaranty. This means that if anything at all happens to my tires in the next 50k miles, they will be repaired or replaced for free.
When I drove away with my new tires and my new brakes, it felt like a new car. I mean really. The car felt like a totally different car. It handles nicely. Stops better. And you can feel the difference in those new tires. I love them!!!
I picked up my neighbor who has been helping me recently. Now his truck is down again and I took him out for the afternoon to run his errands.
When we got back, I got a 6 HP Tecumseh gas engine from him that his roommate had started to demolish. He was beating on the pulley to remove it from the shaft. But it was welded on. The best thing you can do in this case is to leave it on there and use it. The engine runs if you put gas in but the carburetor is messed up.
This is the same carburetor as the one on my Ariens snow blower so I can get one for $13 on ebay easily enough for it.
I will have the pulley welded back on I think. It is good to have a spare gas engine for the off grid homestead.
Because it had been raining all day I checked the rain water tank in the off grid storage shed. I found that I had collected 200 gallons of water in a single day. This is good news because I was running a bit low on all tanks recently.
Having running water in my off grid tiny home means that I use a bit more each day. So the water supply was getting a bit critical. Now I have a bit more reserve to go on.
