Why I Dont Stress About Fire Wood & Generator Talk

The reason that I am never stressed about fire wood for my off grid tiny house on wheels. There are many rumors and much discussion. Here it is.....

I spent my first two years living off the grid freezing nearly to death. The first year in the camper was the worst. That old camper leaked like crazy and I had frozen water inside all the time.

The second year I spent in the RV that I remodeled. This was a bit better. But mornings it was quite cold inside and the cat water dish froze. It was always so cold on the floor level.

The last two winters I have spent inside my tiny house on wheels. Now things are so much different. The walls in my tiny house are about 7 inches thick. They include radiant foil to keep the heat inside the tiny home.

I also have a super efficient wood stove that only uses about 1.5 cubic feet of wood per 24 hours to heat the place up.

In one or two hours I can split enough fire wood for a week or two. On this day I cut enough wood to last me until February.

Many people have been worried about me and stressed about my wood situation. Many rumors have been developed about why I am not worried myself.

I have used less than half a cord of wood so far this winter. I figure we have another two months of cold weather and then it is over for the year.

I use my wood stove as the main heat source. I am not using the propane standby heater due to the cost of fuel. There is no need to spend money when I can cut fire wood for free.

I think on a bad winter I may end up using about a cord of wood in the off grid tiny house on wheels.

I also prefer cutting fire wood in winter so that explains my reason for not doing so in the summer. I do not do well in the heat. Hard work in the winter is the best for me.

Although I ran out of split and stacked fire wood a few days ago, just a couple hours of work got me back in business again. I have a lot of wood cut into logs that need splitting and sorting into cured or not yet cured. This is the main reason I am not worried about the winter. I just cut more as I start to get low.

I do hope to clear some of the trees around the meadow this winter and cut it into logs for next year. I hope to get a year or two ahead soon and keep it that way for emergencies.

I hope this clears up the reasons why I am not stressed about heating my tiny house on wheels this winter.
