Maple Syrup Work & Some Awesome New Stuff
I am still working on my maple syrup evaporator. I had planned to finish the project today and start boiling down maple syrup.
I am using an old wood stove as the basis for my maple syrup evaporator. I have some stainless steel restaurant pans that will hold the raw sap.
I have finished cutting the top of the wood stove to fit the stainless steel evaporator pans. Next is to simply hook up the stove pipe and start a test burn to see how well the maple syrup evaporator works.
I cut a hole through the side of the pallet wood sugar shack to allow the stove pipe to go through.
Next I tried to find a stove pipe which would fit the stove. This is where I ran into problems. The stove pipe fitting on the wood stove is just a tiny bit larger than my standard stove pipes. I cannot get a pipe to fit around the outside of the fitting.
So what I had to do in the end was to turn the pipe around the wrong way and insert it into the wood stove. This fits but it is not the best way to do things.
I was also having trouble finding wood stove pipes because I discovered that my old pipes had rotted out around the fittings. This is not good.
A couple packages arrived today. One was a new headlamp from ThruNite. This is quite an amazing head lamp with a special bonus.
Inside the package is a battery charger which fits A, AA and most other batteries of that size. The cool thing about this battery charger is that it is fully automatic. But it is also a power supply as well.
This little USB powered battery charger becomes a power pack when you insert a battery into it. You can use it to charge your cell phone on the go.
When you plug in the charging cable it automatically senses this and turns on the battery charging mode to recharge the battery.
I will be trying out this headlamp and battery charger in the coming days and give you a full review later.
Another surprise package came in the mail containing a Ryobi circular saw. I love my Ryobi power tools very much. This will be very useful around the homestead. I use my Ryobi power tools very heavily out here on the off grid homestead.
