I tilled a new flower bed for Melanie and then put mulch around the new bed and front garden walkway and grapes. Plus a new chick is hatching at the off grid homestead. Read the full blog article here: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/blog/?p=2035

I wanted to put in a flower bed on each side of the front of the garden with a walkway in between. I got my restored garden tiller out and broke the earth for the new bed.

This took me quite a bit of time due to all the rocks in the soil. I can only till a few seconds and then pick up a lot of rocks before I can move on again. I do this for multiple passes until the tiller can dig deep and break up the soil nicely for the new plants.

After tilling Chris helped me get a load of mulch in the bed of the truck and then I put down cardboard in front of the garden walkway and around the new flower bed. On top of this I put a thick layer of mulch.

This gives our new garden addition a very nice appearance. I had enough mulch and cardboard on the truck to mulch in front of the grapes and behind as well as around the new flower bed.

Melanie made some very nice dinner rolls from scratch and we all loved them very much. She is quite amazing in the kitchen. These are actually better than from the store because they are perfectly fresh and made from scratch.

I have had bantam eggs in the chicken incubator for about three weeks now and one is hatching. I did not expect anything to survive at all because one night the cats unplugged the incubator during a very cold night and the eggs dropped to 65 degrees F by morning when I discovered them.
