Reparing An Old Self Propelled Lawn Mower

The grass is getting long out here at the off grid homestead so it is time to get a lawn mower running. I have a self propelled lawn mower that I got for free last fall and I figured I would get it running.

This engine was also full of mouse nests and took some time to get it all out. Fortunately this engine was not damaged from the mouse nests.

The carburetor was gummed up badly though and took some time to clean up. The float was seized up and would not move but I eventually got it working again.

I got some parts for the carb when I found out that the fuel bowl gasket was in pieces and the carburetor to engine gasket was bad as well.

I picked up an inline fuel filter while I was there and got a new air filter for the engine. The old air filter was filthy black with dirt.

After a good cleaning with the air compressor I got the carb cleaned out nicely.

I put the lawn mower back together again and it fired up and ran nicely. I mowed some of the lawn with ease using my new self propelled lawn mower.

And it has a bag and mulching blades so it mulches the grass and bags it for me so I can use it on the compost heap. Recycling at its finest.
