Air filter has no MERV but has DON'T EAT THIS FILTER warning.

Tried to find a MERV rating on this air filter but all it gave was a warning to not eat it. The MERV rating is a measure of the efficiency of an air filter. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, and it is a standardized rating system developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to rate the effectiveness of air filters.

The MERV rating of an air filter ranges from 1 to 20 and indicates the filter's ability to capture airborne particles. A higher MERV rating means that the filter can capture smaller particles, including pollen, mold spores, pet dander, and dust mites. Here is a general breakdown of what each MERV rating means:

MERV 1 to 4: Basic filtration. These filters capture larger particles such as dust mites, pollen, and carpet fibers.

MERV 5 to 8: Better filtration. These filters capture smaller particles such as pet dander and mold spores.

MERV 9 to 12: Higher filtration. These filters capture even smaller particles such as lead dust and milled flour.

MERV 13 to 16: Superior filtration. These filters capture even smaller particles such as bacteria and tobacco smoke.

MERV 17 to 20: HEPA filters. These filters capture the smallest particles such as viruses and are used in hospitals and other specialized settings.

It's important to note that higher MERV rated filters may also be more restrictive to air flow and could cause strain on the HVAC system if not sized correctly for the system. It's best to consult with an HVAC professional to determine the appropriate MERV rating for your specific HVAC system and indoor air quality needs.
