Stucco damage and cracks on a home with no soffit
To prevent water entry, any crack in stucco should be patched as soon as possible. Generally, any crack in stucco larger than 1/8 inch (3mm) should be patched.
To patch the crack, you can use a stucco patching compound or a silicone-based sealant. Here are the steps to patch the crack:
Clean the area around the crack with a wire brush or scraper to remove any loose debris and dirt.
Use a vacuum or compressed air to remove any remaining debris from the crack and the surrounding area.
Apply the stucco patching compound or silicone-based sealant into the crack using a putty knife or caulking gun, depending on the size of the crack.
Smooth the patching material with the putty knife, making sure it is level with the surrounding stucco surface.
Allow the patching material to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Once the patching material is dry, use sandpaper to sand the surface of the patch until it is smooth and level with the surrounding stucco.
Finally, paint the patch with a stucco paint that matches the color of the surrounding area.
It is important to keep in mind that if the crack is due to structural issues or water damage, simply patching the crack may not be enough. It's best to consult with a professional if you suspect there may be underlying issues causing the crack.
