'Almost an IMPOSSIBLE job!' | Virgil van Dijk downbeat after Real Madrid thrash Liverpool 5-2

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk accepted it's "almost an impossible' job for Liverpool to avoid a Champions League exit after a comprehensive 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the last-16 at Anfield on Tuesday.

Down by two goals after 14 minutes at the first leg at Anfield, defending champions Madrid came back to win 5-2 on Tuesday and take a commanding lead into the second leg at the Bernabeu.

Vinicius Jr. and Karim Benzema scored two goals each to stun the hosts, with Liverpool conceding four goals in a home European match for the first time.

Despite the enormous European setback, Van Dijk urged his team to regain their focus and recover with positive domestic results in the Premier League.

"The only thing we can do is learn from it and focus on the next one to make sure that that doesn't happen. And obviously, if you look back in the last two games, you played well and that's something we should focus on as well. And don't be in panic."
