Oxford 18th February 2023 - Protest against LTN's: Part 6 - Return to the City Centre

Some confusion on Cowley Road. I thought the march was supposed to go on to a park, where people from Oxford would be speaking about what was happening to their city. I didn't realise where we stopped was the place where that was going to happen, as the green area didn't look big enough for it, and the only park I could see was a children's playground. My mistake, and unfortunately it meant I missed the speeches by locals, as I couldn't hear them. Some people in high vis said we should go back to the city centre, which is what a large proportion of the march did, and was not what was intended.
Oxford City Council is one of many local authorities in the UK, and around the world, that are seeking to control when and how people travel around their own cities. In the case of Oxford, the council is seeking to divide the city into districts and wishes to control the number of times residents can leave their district by car each year. Fines are proposed for those who exceed their 'allowance'. The barriers are already going up.
