Warm Sunny Day Wood Working & Laundry At The Homestead

It was over 50 degrees outside and sunny on this late December day. I worked in the off grid wood shop while Melanie washed all our clothes.

The solar panels were pumping out the power into our off grid solar battery bank. The batteries needed it too since we have not seen the sun much in days.

The rain water tanks were full to the top and it was sunny and warm so Melanie washed all our clothes. Since it is winter we cannot just go out and wash our clothes any time we want. We have to wait for days like this. And then we wash everything. Melanie used about 200 gallons of rain water on this day to wash literally everything, including our blankets and bedding.

I finished putting together the off grid wood shop in the camper. I am building a mobile wood shop on wheels in an old camper I got for free.

I put in two sales counters that I cut down to fit as work benches. Today I took some thick plywood and cut it to fit as a bench top. This is a very rugged and strong work bench now.

I think that a very good test of a work bench is when you hammer out some nails on top of the bench. This I did and the bench did not even move a bit.

Now I have to just clean up the wood shop and I will be in business. I have always dreamed of having a wood shop where I can set up my tools and equipment permanently. Now, finally, I have it.

Now, even if I ever move, the work shop simply moves with me. This is part of the reason that I am putting everything into campers. I can move them around as needed.

Later I got the wood shop set up a bit better and worked on some recycled pallet wood products for a while. I am making some more coffee coasters and pallet wood shelves for sale on our new store http://www.recycledpalletproducts.com

We are constantly adding new products made out of recycled pallet and barn wood so keep checking back daily.

Later in the greenhouse I varnished some finished coffee coasters and two beautiful pallet wood wall sconces. I also put a first coat of varnish on the two new shelves I made.

I am happy with how the shelves turned out. These were pallets just this very day. I cut out the boards and made the shelves on the same day. The colors and patterns in the wood are quite beautiful.
