Built Nearly Free Pallet Wood Chicken Tractor

I built a new chicken tractor for only $8 using all pallet wood. The only cost was for the chicken wire. This is large enough for my smaller birds or for about 4 to 5 adults.

I have been picking up pallets and crates when I see them for use in projects.

I made this chicken tractor out of 1x3 and 2x2 lumber from pallets. Every single piece of wood was from pallets or salvaged in some way.

I used my air powered stapler to quickly and efficiently put it all together. Screws and nails tend to split smaller wood like this but the staples do a good job.

I put supports in the middle and put a board across for a chicken roost. Then I stapled chicken wire all around to keep the birds in.

This is a day pen only so it is not really meant to protect the birds from predators. Rather it is meant to keep the birds in.

Half of the top flips back and lets us walk inside to gather up the chickens with ease.

When I put the birds inside they were quite happy. They were hopping on and off of the perch and playing.

Now our little birds have even more grass and bugs to eat in one place. We can easily slide this over as they eat grass in one area to give them fresh food throughout the day.

This will offset our feed costs and make the broilers healthier for us.
