Starting an old 11 HP gas engine on supercapacitors from Amperics. Read the full article here: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11423

I let the engine sit overnight untouched in the cold. And it was cold out during the night. The engine has no choke so this is a real good test of the capacitors ability to start an engine during winter.

I now have two banks of capacitors soldered together in parallel to give me a bit more power for engine starting. This also halves the current through the wires, reducing stress and heat.

I removed the battery wires and connected the capacitor bank in place of the battery.

The engine started right up with no problem on the ultra capacitors.

The next test will be to see if this supercapacitor bank can start the old simplicity garden tractor. This old beast never started easy. If the capacitors can start that engine then I know that I am on to something here.
