Saving Our Vegetables For Winter & Got Building Supplies

We are transplanting all our vegetables and herbs into pots to keep them alive during the winter in the greenhouse. Its payday so we went shopping for supplies.

Melanie and I are working hard to save as many of our garden plants as we can before the deep freeze hits and kills everything. We are keeping some of our favorite herbs and any vegetables that are still alive.

We have my old greenhouse frame which serves as a nice set of shelves for the large greenhouse.

We are putting all our vegetables and herbs into pots and into the new full sized greenhouse. We are hoping to have fresh vegetables and herbs all through the winter months.

The greenhouse will be heated by the sun during the day and by a wood stove at night.

We got paid so we went out shopping for most of the day to get supplies, groceries and building materials. Out here shopping means driving a long distance to another town where all the stores are.

This generally means half a day used up.

We got some building supplies for the winter greenhouse and for the off grid water and battery shed.

I have some rain gutters and all the fittings to collect rain water in the new off grid winter greenhouse. This will hopefully provide all the water we need for our greenhouse vegetables through the year.

I also hope to one day have aquaponics in there when I get the winter temperatures established and stable.

I also got some spray tar undercoating which I will use on the greenhouse metal roofing on the north side to prevent rust during damp conditions. This will extend the life of the roofing considerably.

And I got some spray foam for around the windows and in gaps for the greenhouse.

For the off grid water and battery storage shed I have some solid foam sheets for the roof. I want to put in solid foam up against the metal roofing and then use fiberglass insulation next. Spray foam will fill any gaps between the rigid foam.
