Homestead Gardening & Making Our Own Chicken Sausages & Burgers

Melanie and I are still working in the garden. We made our own homemade chicken sausages and burgers from our homestead chickens.

We are cooking a lot with out solar cooker. It keeps the heat out of the house on a hot summer day and reduces our energy bill.

Melanie and I are working the garden every day now. I am staking up the tomatoes so that they will grow larger and better. I put the last of our metal stakes in the ground and then started tying twine around the tomatoes to keep them off the ground.

As the tomatoes grow taller we can keep tying them up higher on the stakes. This will give us better access to the tomatoes later on. And it provides better air flow underneath the plants to prevent disease. Plus tomatoes grow better when staked up.

Melanie and I made our own chicken sausages and burgers using the hand crank meat grinder.

Melanie made up her own recipe with an idea she got from the internet. With the grinder we have you grind up the meat in one pass and then process sausages with the second pass.

We ended up with 15 sausages and 4 chicken burgers.

This was the legs and thighs from our own 6 meat birds that we grew right here on the homestead.
