Is Rishi Sunak close to a deal on the Northern Ireland protocol? - BBC Newsnight

Attempts to break the impasse over the Northern Ireland Protocol -
a trade deal with the EU and the UK - have been described as "
hopeful" by Democratic Unionists and "very positive" by Sinn Fein.

There's a lot at stake not the chance to get Northern Ireland's
devolved government back up and running, but also to change the
wider political atmosphere with the European Union.

For example, the EU is withholding billions in science funding
while the issue of the Northern Ireland Protocol remains blocked. This is one example of how both the Government and Labour's
aspirations to make Brexit work better hinge on a solution.
