This dramatic footage shows a human smuggler driving at over 100mph on the wrong side of the road in a bid to escape from Texas police.

The footage that included the driver heading into oncoming traffic was recorded at the US southern border with Mexico on 7th February.

The video was obtained by Newsflash from Texas Department of Public Safety and spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez said the vehicle had been spotted trying to evade cops in Val Verde County.

It shows how the driver seven times managed to drive around tyre deflation devices in order to carry on trying to escape.

At the end of the footage, the driver, reportedly from Florida, drove off the road and tried to escape on foot, leaving the four illegal immigrants in the vehicle behind.

Texas Department of Public Safety said in a statement also obtained by Newsflash on Thursday, 15th February: "A human smuggler from Florida led DPS Troopers on a high-speed vehicle pursuit in Val Verde County.

"The driver eventually bailed out and ran toward the brush. Four illegal immigrants were found inside the vehicle.

"The driver was eventually found, arrested and charged with human smuggling and evading arrest."

The nationality of the immigrants was not revealed and after questioning, they were handed over to the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents.
