Although Carnival is a fun and colorful event, it also has a long history. In the past, Carnival was a time for people to express their emotions before the beginning of Lent, a period of fasting and penance. Viareggio Carnival floats are large papier-mâché and wooden structures, often up to 20 meters high. Each float represents a specific theme, which can be political, social, or simply funny. Each year, thousands of visitors travel to Viareggio to admire the floats, which are often hand-carved by local artists.

In addition to the floats, the Viareggio Carnival offers many other attractions, including street parties, concerts, fireworks displays, and tastings of Tuscan specialties.

In both cases, the Venice and Viareggio carnivals offer a spectacular and colorful celebration of Italian culture and traditions.
