A Heartfelt Message of Hope For America -
A Get-Well Card

As I recently watched the evening news
with talk of war, deficits, and hopes lost,
I grieved the misery painted by such views.
Aware am I our nation’s survived at great cost!

So, I now construct a message of hope for our land,
our America, proud home of the brave and of the free.
Words scribed for citizens to form a brotherhood band,
to keep alive a spirit of “I can for you by enabling me”.

Its message must not be forged with words of haste.
It is essential to revere the memory for all who sacrifice.
This card shall not be fashioned with ordinary paste,
for only glue that honors deeds eternal shall suffice.

May we color this card with red, white, and blue in rhyme
to remind us of liberty, purity, and love for country due.
Understanding we are unable to turn back the hands of time,
we must carry on a spirit embracing the ideals of each hero.

May we soon reach a place and time when our worries may abate.
As we work together to ease and calm tense spirits of unrest,
may we use love to replace rancor and hard feelings born of hate.
Long live the dreams of these who willed our land to be the best!

A selection of men and women of valor remembered by these quotes:

Patriot Patrick Henry, led other great men willing to die for freedom with his St. John’s Church immortal cry,

“Give me liberty or give me death!”

Susan B. Anthony and her belief in rights for every citizen:

“Men – their rights and nothing more;
Women – their rights and nothing less

John D. Rockefeller’s concern about prosperity for all,

“I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living”.

Dr. Martin Luther King honored man’s desire for liberty by recognizing,

“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”

Long live America!
