Kern's Buffalo Soldiers preserve the legacy of the first Black U.S. military organization

It was 1886 when Congress passed legislation allowing Black Americans to enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces during peacetime. Black soldiers banded together into the Buffalo Soldiers and helped rebuild the country after the Civil War. Today, the Kern County Chapter of Buffalo Solders honors and continues a legacy of service and pride.
