The name, “A Forest of Blind Men”, pays homage to the old Hindu parable of blind men who come across an elephant within a forest. Trying to identify this animal, each blind man grabs a portion of the elephant, coming to different conclusions as to what this mysterious entity is. The moral of this tale is that they are all looking at the same object but with different interpretations.

The song uses this concept, yet to discuss religious believers - Hindu, Christian, Muslim, etc. - and how they traditionally condemn one another for worshipping different gods and even endure bloodshed, when, in reality, why not embrace the similar vision of believing in a higher power/creator - together?

The opening verse of the song, screamed by Tyler, represents the Hindu believer through the 4 stages of Hindu life (the Student, the Father, the Teacher, etc.). Followed by Jake (cleans) comes a Christian believer, exclaiming he has no belief in reincarnation, but kneels to his God. Jimmy, Tommy, and Tyler vocalize back and forth, shouting aspects of their religious beliefs at one another - Taoism, Hinduism, Muslim etc in the groove. All in all, the “pages we sift through establish our sinew,” or, the scriptures we worship mold our outlooks on life. Why condemn one another when there is similar love for a creator or ultimate being?

NOTE: This messaging in this song is not anti-religion, either. We feel, in the modern era, the anti-religious taunts are not welcoming.

Lyrics:

Begun seeking knowledge
Become tender wardens
Possessions we abolish
Bring us solace
Live beyond death

Yet, reincarnation to me feels so unreal
With little evidence, my heart begs me to kneel
Forest of blind men

Upanishads tell life’s story
Brahman is reality
This divine essence infinite, eternal
However, life is suffering
Ensure you reach Enlightenment
We end pain if we follow Eightfold, together
The final prophet, Mohammed
The former shepherd and merchant
His message teaches us of Allah, no other
Place your will in harmony
Balance your energy, your chi
Discover you is to discover the Earth

And these ideals could collide
You see with open eyes, but not an open mind

Leave me to decide what’s mine
Don’t persecute me for your so-called crime
When we see alike

Built my foundation
Concrete, complacent
The pages we sift through establish our sinew

Yet, I hear the Father
Not the Vedas, not Mohammed
There is no other but my God
Dwelling inside all, only the Bible

One, flesh and blood that was born so cold
Will you be able to lead us through a neverending war?
Between the silence and the rust, one body ends and turns to dust
Will you be able to lead us?
The pages we sift through establish our sinew
