Fire Emblem Engage - Hard Classic - Part 26: The Radiant Strategist (Soren's Divine Paralogue)

As much as I absolutely hate to do this, I think I've reached my limit of what I can do on Maddening difficulty. So for the sake of seeing the rest of the game, much to my chagrin, I'm going to have to bump down the difficulty to Hard.

With Tiki's Emblem Bracelet in hand, new paths to 5 other Divine Paralogue battles have opened up, though only 3 are available right now. So let's get back into the DLC and tackle Soren's Divine Paralogue next!

To access the Divine Paralogues, you must buy the Fire Emblem Engage Expansion Pass, then clear Chapter 6. Go back to the Somniel and witness an event at Lookout Ridge where the Bracelet of the Three Houses will be found. After watching the event that follows, go back to the World Map, and a new pathway will open to a separate area where the Divine Paralogues will be.

Soren's Divine Paralogue is probably the hardest one of the four so far. The gimmick behind this one is volcanic bombs that drop on the battlefield every turn where there is a unit standing on a magma crater tile. They do massive damage (23 on Hard, 29 on Maddening), but you can't die from them (just have your HP reduced to 1 if it's low enough). But being the cunning strategist he is, Soren took this into account with a massive horde of healers in the center of the battlefield to heal up his troops back to full HP after each volcanic eruption. These two things make it very difficult to advance in this map, and to top it all off, the volcanic eruptions also cause the battlefield to gradually be engulfed in smoke which reduces your units' Avoid, Defense, and Resistance making them much more vulnerable to attack.

Unlike in Tiki and Hector's battles, Soren's reinforcements don't appear from behind your starting point but rather on each side pathway, slowing down your advance even further.

The enemy army is heavily magic-focused (including Soren himself), so high Resistance, high Avoid units are key, as well as a healer or two. Be careful when attacking the units surrounding Soren, because he can cast Reflect on them which deflects half of a magic attack's damage back at you. It's perfect for his armored generals on either side. His Bolting attack can hit 10 tiles away, and his Engage attack Cataclysm hits with magic 3 times (one element of which is wind which is super effective against flying units and can one-shot them), so it may be best to use Tiki's Engage attack to give a revival stone to your high-avoid tank unit (in my case Alear) and then send them in to bait out Soren and his backup units. With my Alear's Quick Riposte skill from Hector, she was able to wipe out the Generals and then focus solely on Soren after that.

There are a couple treasure chests in this map. Thieves will steal their contents immediately, but their escape will be cut off by their own hordes of units in the cramped arena giving you ample time to steal the items right back.
