On The Walt Disney Company’s Investor Day event of 2020, Kathleen Kennedy announced that Lucasfilm would be producing the movie adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Young Adult novel “Children of Blood & Bone”, as a first venture into new IP. Little more than one year later, the project had failed at Disney, been taken over by Paramount; while Disney had abandoned all plans involving new IP at Lucasfilm, outside of Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Willow.

What could have precipitated such a radical change in the span of just one year?
