MSU shooting suspect previously escaped felony firearm charge thanks to plea deal.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections (DOC), McRae was arrested and charged with a felony in June 2019 for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

However, McRae later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for possessing a loaded firearm instead. He then served a year and a half on probation, and was discharged in May 2021.

During his probation, McRae never submitted a positive drug test nor were there any issues to note from him during that time, according to the Michigan DOC.
