Hartman Turnbow was a true family man from Milestone, Mississippi. He was very serious about his role as a protector and never shied away from reminding anyone of that fact. He was famously known for telling Martin Luther King, Jr “this nonviolent stuff ain’t no good, it’ll get you killed.”

The book “This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed: How Guns Made the Civil Rights Movement Possible” by Charles E. Cobb Jr is inspired by Hartman Turnbow’s bravery and defiance.
