Chatfield Senior High School Chargers and Dakota Ridge High School Eagles renewed their rivalry in this matchup on Sep. 23, 2022 at Jeffco Stadium. The two met in the 2021 4A State Quarterfinal round of the playoffs and the Chargers (8-3) ended a 4 game winning streak by the Eagles (11-0), coming back from a 24-7 late third quarter deficit to win 42-31. Chatfield went onto win their second state title.

The Chargers moved up to 5A in 2022 and started 0-4 with struggled a new head coach, several key injuries, having lost 5 all-state seniors, the best offensive line in the state, and all-state athlete Mason Lowe, who had transferred to IMG Academy. Dakota Ridge also had stumbled to a 2-2 start after going undefeated the previous 2 regular seasons, but failing to win a state title.

Junior QB Jake Jones and Sophomore RB Brock Narva dominated the 1st half, connecting on 3 touchdown passes. Jones also ran for 2 first half scores and hit junior TE Drew Rohlman for a 2nd half touchdown. The Chargers benefited from fumble recoveries by Dakota Balderston and Ethan Finnefrock, plus a Ben Weber interception that helped them score 27 2nd quarter points. The Eagles got two garbage time touchdowns to make the score look close, and were led by Noah Triplett's 3 touchdowns and Blake Palladino's 2 TD tosses.
