Freeze dryer batch #556 - Doing a moisture test to find out how much water is in 4 different dry items.
Test drying 1000 grams each of salt, sugar, uncooked rice, and uncooked dry beans. The sugar and salt lost almost no weight; the rice and beans lost a total of 204 grams of water. Next. I rehydrated the rice and beans. The beans rehydrated okay, but the rice didn't.

Start by asking yourself this question. Why are you freeze drying food? Knowing this should help you decide what you should freeze dry first.

Freeze dried food will stay fresh for many years and be ready and waiting when you need it.
