Dream Lotus & Flame Technique

This lucid dreaming technique comes from Stephen Laberges book “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming” and can be found in more detail there.

The first step is to lie in bed and relax completely. Gently close your eyes and relax every part of your body. Let go of all muscular and mental tension. Breathe slowly and restfully. Let go of all thoughts worries or concerns.

Once you feel fully relaxed visualize a beautiful lotus with white-pink petals curling slightly inwards. Visualize this in your throat.

Imagine a flame within the center of the lotus. Try to visualize the flame as clearly as possible. Gentle focus on the top of the flame and continue to try and visualize for as long as possible.

Gently observe how the images of the flame and lotus interact with the other images that naturally arise within your mind. Do not try and think about or interpret these images. Simply be an observer.

Contemplate the flame and lotus until you feel the image and your awareness of it merge together.

Gradually, with practice, you will find that you are dreaming

This technique can be difficult for people with poor visualization abilities and it is recommended that you start of with other visualization exercises if you find this technique to be particularly difficult.
