Vigilantism meaning - the act of preventing, investigating and punishing perceived offenses and crimes without legal authority.

Vigilantism on the rise in the United States with people believing that police policies and new no-bail laws are making the streets more dangerous. Citizens are starting to take the law into their own hands.

In Houston, a diner shot a would be robber - preventing the robbery with multiple shots fired into the suspect.
In DC, a city government worker fired a gun at a teenager who was stealing a car - The thirteen year old boy died.
In St. Louis, a women fought back after her car was car-jacked but also killed a pedestrian when she fired at the jacker.

The perception is, calling the police or voting for stricter policies is not working. But is law enforcement by citizen the correct way to solve the problem? Two out of the three vigilantes above are being charged with manslaughter or murder.
