Canada: Liberal MP Sameer Zuberi comments following vote on Uyghur resettlement motion – February 1, 2023

Liberal MP Sameer Zuberi (Pierrefonds-Dollard, Que.) holds a news conference following the House of Commons vote on motion 62, which calls on Canada to resettle 10,000 Uyghur and Turkic Muslims fleeing the Xinjiang region of China. MPs unanimously adopted the motion. Zuberi is joined by Dolkun Isa (president of the World Uyghur Congress), Mehmet Tohti (executive director of the Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project), Margaret McCuaig-Johnston (senior fellow at the University of Ottawa’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs), and Stephen Brown (CEO of the National Council of Canadian Muslims).
