From the rising of the SUN to the going down of the same, the Name of the LORD is to be praise. It was such an eerie feeling to be up there on the oldest continually inhabited city and SEE NO ONE. I guess it was too early, not to mention it was a COLD 13 degree winter day. The church, begun in 1629, was completed after 11 years of hard labor and 168 Acoma deaths.

The Spaniards forced the Acoma to accept Catholicism. The church space in the cemetery is reserved for tribal elders and those who live in the pueblo year-round.
