Genesis | Pt. 36 Unoffendable

I want you to join me on a journey of becoming unoffendable
Everybody is looking to be offended
Have you noticed we live in a culture of offenses
Everybody is offended and everybody is mad at somebody
People are so easily offended
Ironic that Christians are the most easily offended
Today's message = how to become UNOFFENDABLE
This is a journey the Lord is taking me on and I see some great insights from Joseph

Genesis 39:10-18
Joseph does the right thing yet suffers for it
Ever experienced that?
Integrity does the right thing even if it means you suffer in the short term
Joseph was a victim but that's not where his focus was
Focus is so important if we are going live unoffendable
Genesis 39:19-23
Most people in his shoes would continually rehearse all the unfair things
Every conversation at lunch with his cell mates would be about all the bad things he unfairly went through
What is clear from Scripture is that Joseph released his right to be offended
If you choose to be offended you will focus on the wrong thing and you will miss your destiny
The destiny of Joseph was to get to the Palace
If he would have been a victim he would have never served in the prison
He did not know that by serving in the prison it would propel him into the palace
If you focus on an offense you will miss your destiny
Example is David
1st Samuel 16 = Samuel anoints David with oil to be King
David goes back to taking care of a few sheep
1st Samuel 17 = David is asked to deliver sandwiches to his older brothers
‘I'm a King not a door dash driver”
David had a heart after God; David had a heart to serve
He arrives with the sandwiches
Goliath is standing there
David stepped into his destiny by delivering sandwiches to his brothers
He would have never faced Goliath if he didn’t deliver sandwiches
He did the insignificant which propelled him into the significant
But the devil tried setting a trap for David before he ever fought Goliath
Can I show you something that will amaze you?
1 Samuel 17:25-3
David has a decision to make: get offended and fight his brother or overlook the offense and fight the real enemy
The devil wants you to get offended and spend all your time and energy fighting the wrong battle
He wants you on Facebook wasting hours arguing with people that you should waste 2 seconds on
Winston Churchill once said, “you will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks”
Many of you are fighting the wrong battle right now because you are offended
The devil doesn't want you to fight Goliath; he wants you to fight Eliab
Interesting thing I learned from secular psychology: Emotion of offense is triggered by a blow to a person's honor & pride
Pride is what holds onto the offense
Pride gets offended
Kill pride = unoffendable
That’s why we die to self; it’s hard to offend a dead man
People don't offend us, we choose to be offended
Offense is a moment, offended is a continual decision
Pride holds on to the offense
James 1:19-20
Human anger doesn't profit us anything
Anger is birthed through offense
Watch this: the enemy uses offense to destroy what God wants us to build
God wants us to build a marriage, build a family, build a church
Enemy will use offense to destroy a marriage, family and church
The devil has one goal = destruction
He will use the littlest things (he doesn't come with division or destruction but he comes with offense)
I’ve discovered one of the biggest triggers for anger among Christians is other people’s sin
We get so offended when sinners sin; and there is a righteous anger but there is also a self-righteous anger that many Christians operate in
Can I make things a little uncomfortable?
If you don't like what I say here then you need to take it up with the boss
Sawdust vs. Plank
Matthew 7:1-5
For some reason we get so angry about a speck in someone’s eye while ignoring the log in our own eye
We will gladly call out other’s sin while simultaneously covering up our own

We tend to magnify the sins of others
Why do we magnify?
Go grab plank
We don’t want to address our plank so we will magnify their speck
Usually the speck in someone’s eye angers us because it represents the plank in our eye
Watch this: that speck is of the same material as this plank that’s why it bothers me
We judge the speck intensely but we have to realize that measure we judge we are judged right back
So instead of using a magnifying glass to enhance their speck we need a mirror to deal with our log
The Bible is our mirror
When the log is removed from our eyes then we can help people with the speck in their eyes
But we will not help them when we are angry
Human anger produces nothing fruitful
How do we get rid of the log?
Humble ourselves
Pride will deflect the attention to someone else’s speck
Humility will address the log we carry
Proverbs 19:11
Maturity is not how quickly you can get offended but how quickly you can drop it
