US readying new $2bn Ukraine weapons package, France and Australia promise to supply more

1. The United States is readying more than $2bn worth of military aid for Ukraine that is expected to include longer-range rockets for the first time as well as other munitions and weapons, according to the Reuters news agency, citing two US officials briefed on the plan.

The aid is expected to be announced as soon as this week, the officials said on Wednesday. It is also expected to include support equipment for Patriot air defense systems, precision-guided munitions and Javelin anti-tank weapons, they added.

2. Western countries have recently announced their intention to send more weapons to Ukraine.

France and Australia have agreed to jointly manufacture and supply thousands of 155 millimeter artillery rounds to the Ukrainian army.

Poland has said it could send F-16 fighters if it gets NATO support.

Denmark has also pledged to provide more than 19 Caesar self-propelled howitzers, and to help train Ukrainian troops.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that by spring his troops would be able to fight using tanks provided by the West.
