The best trails Northeast Scotland has to offer! Ride Along at Pitfichie on the Bird Aether 9

Pitfichie is a classic riding destination in the North-East of Scotland, offering a great variety of trails that work their way down the signature granite rock slabs of Aberdeenshire. There are trails to suit all abilities, relatively kind climbs to take you back up to your next descent, and stunning views of the surrounding hills to make it all the sweeter.

The Bird Aether 9 Carbon is a 130mm travel aggressive trail bike which represents the first carbon fiber offering from the UK-based direct-to-consumer brand. Following on from the Aluminum version, the Carbon Aether 9 uses a Horst link suspension design to deliver 130mm of rear wheel travel, which is paired to a 140mm fork up front as standard. The 9 denotes the wheel size in the Aether range, with the 9C designed to run 29” wheels on both ends and no option offered to tweak things for a mullet configuration. Bird has a more speed and race-oriented range of enduro bikes in their Aeris, so the Aether line up is tailored more towards “fun”, with geometry that Bird selected to ensure there’s still an element of agility thrown into the mix.

Hop on board with our Tech Editor Robert as he puts the Bird Aether 9C through its paces at one of his favorite Scottish riding destinations and shares his thoughts as an introduction to his long-term review of the bike. Be sure to check out the full review coming to the site in the beginning of 2022.
