Last night, a woman was driving south on Catalina Boulevard in Deltona when an oncoming car drifted across the yellow lines and collided with her vehicle. Thankfully, she and a child in the car were OK, but the driver and 2 passengers in the other vehicle left to hide in the woods.

Deputies arrived at the scene and, with the help of a drone, found all three subjects.
Juan Cruz Hernandez, who had the keys to the vehicle in his pocket along with a fraudulent ID and a temporary tag torn from the license plate bracket, admitted he was the driver and had 6 beers to drink earlier. An Intoxilizer breath test returned results of 0.142 and 0.149 g/210L approximately 3 hours after the time of the crash.

Cruz Hernandez was charged with DUI, DUI with property damage, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, possession of a fraudulent ID, driving without a valid license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and resisting without violence. He was also cited for driving on the wrong side of the road and failure to maintain a single lane. A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement immigration detainer was entered at the Volusia County Branch Jail, with no bond allowed.

His two passengers were charged with resisting without violence.
