Would you go on a £28 cruise to Amsterdam? 🇳🇱

I was sent a link for a £28 cruise, so I thought why not try it out? The cruise was from Newcastle in the UK to Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

We got on the ferry or mini-cruise as DFDS call it sailed from Newcastle at about 5pm on a Friday night and docked at about 9.30am in Amsterdam.

This wasn't my first overnight ferry, I'd done Newhaven to Dieppe and back a few years ago, but we didn't get a cabin, I tried to sleep on the chairs in the lounge and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. I also threw up a lot on both legs of the ferry trip.

This time on the £28 cruise was different as we had booked a cabin for both legs of the journey to Amsterdam and back.

We had booked a 3 birth cabin on this DFDS mini-cruise, which consisted of 3 beds, a tiny table, coat hooks, a shower and toilet and all the bedding - terrible pillows. Not long after lying on the bed I realised that the room next to us was full of teenage girls playing terrible music, so I ended up asking to be moved and the staff at DFDS didn't even bat an eyelid and said no problem. They moved us to a 4 birth cabin on the other side of the boat and I was able to take a spare pillow from the spare bed making my sleep far more comfortable on this ferry ride overnight.

On the first night, it was pretty hard to sleep because the boat was rocking so much, but on the second night, it was actually alright as I knew what to expect and I actually think it was less rough, but maybe I was just used to it.

Overall, would I choose to do a cruise again? Probably yes, but not to Amsterdam - the reason pretty much being solely down to not enjoying Amsterdam, but also the level of clientele on the ferry was pretty poor. It was full of drunk Brits causing havoc and annoying the staff. It was like a floating nightclub. Luckily there was pretty much nobody on our corridor, so it wasn't hard to sleep at all, minus the waves.

DFDS cruises aren't usually £28 return with a cabin, but Goldie sent me a link with a voucher code that gave 2-for-1 on inside cabins. Inside cabins don't have windows. I can only assume they upgraded us to an outside cabin because the mini-cruise wasn't really full at all. It then got even cheaper when you added more people to the room. It would have been down to £25 if we had a fourth person. I need to add that the transfers to and from Amsterdam port to Amsterdam central station were included in this price. It could have been about £3 cheaper each if we didn't pay for these transfers, but it made sense to buy them.

Now if you're looking for cheap travel, low cost travel or frugal travel, whatever you want to call it. A £28 cruise to and from Amsterdam is worth a shot. You've got to bring your own food and drink though as the prices on board are pretty much robbery.
