Oregon is on the forefront of psychedelic medicine, and as of the 2nd of January of this year (2023) there will be licenses available to people wanting to start farming, testing, facilitating, and administering magic mushrooms to people in a legal and regulated way. After 2 years of preparation, the measure is ready to be unrolled and its an exciting advancement in medicine and its possibilities to help people overcome trauma and addiction issues as well as other ailments that psychedelic medicine is believed to help.
Voters in Oregon decided in 2020 to pass measure 109, allowing the legal use of the magical mushrooms, for the first time in American history and in this video we take a close look at what this measure could mean, how this "medicine" could be beneficial, certain risks, legality, scientific explanations, and how these mushrooms are grown and distributed.
Keeping in mind this is a drug that is still recognized by the federal government as a schedule 1 drug. This conflict of laws has been an issue with the legalization of Cannabis, but with less protections for people in the mushroom world.
I got the chance to interview Angela Allbee, manager for the Oregon psilocybin council, a section of the Oregon Health Authority, and she helps to explain how this measure will work and some of the rules surrounding it. There are also several highly regarded people in the mushroom world interviewed and featured in this video, like Larry Evans - "The Mushroom Man," Alan Rockefeller- an expert on magic mushrooms, Reishi Strauss - a psychedelic guide and herbal healer, and Jordan Weiss- "a mycology educator."
This is this first in a series of videos about the measure and the hope is to help spread information and education about the mysterious magical mushroom and help destigmatize them and to maybe help people who could use this 'medicine' to find it more approachable.
